This is a low-effort and fun way to get involved in honey competitions and a club favorite.
We hope you’ll join us even if you’re not entering honey. Here are the details:
When and Where:
Saturday, August 9, 2025
4319 Jay Green Road, Canton (Buffington Church Fellowship Hall)
11:00 am
Members and their families are encouraged to attend, even if not entering honey!
Schedule:
How it works:
If you’re entering your honey:
Bring at least 2 oz of your own honey in whatever container you wish to transport it in. When you arrive, you’ll be provided with a black jar to transfer your honey into as part of your registration. You won’t know which jar is yours.
Once the competition starts, you’ll be able to participate as a judge.
If you’re not entering honey:
If you have some to share as a demo, please bring it. Either way, we’ll be very happy to see you because you’ll get to be a judge!
How a black jar competition works:
The use of black jars allows us to mask the visual differences in the honey and forces us to judge by taste alone. It's easy. You just pick your favorite! You’ll be provided with a sanitary way to sample the different honeys and a way to cast your vote for your favorites. Depending on the number of entries, we anticipate at least 2 rounds of competition: the preliminary round and the finals.
This year the main competition and prizes will be for members only. Directors will have a separate class or participate as demos.
We will be offering some great prizes to our winners:
1st place: $100 and a trophy (and bragging rights) 2nd place: $50 and a ribbon (and bragging rights) 3rd place: $25 and a ribbon (and bragging rights)
The Demo Table:
We will also be offering a demo table so if you have an interesting honey that you'd like to share (but not enter), bring it! We enjoy sampling different types of honey and honey from various locations inside and outside of the US.
